Intermediate 3 – Weeks 7 & 8

I missed week 7. The tutor kindly sent me the handouts. The focus was on Sgraffito and Knifing out. I practiced the technique at home.

Knifing Out

I painted a layer of green paint. Then used various tools (plastic room key card, a coin, a wooden tooth pick and a craft knife) to scratch the paint to leave white marks in the green paint.

I think the plastic room card had the best results.

Sgraffito

I painted a wash and let it dry. I then scratched a spiders web into the paint using a craft knife.

Week 8

The idea was to bring along a picture that we wanted to paint. This should include some Sgraffito of Knifing out. I did not have anything to hand so I asked Google Ai to create a picture for me.

Generate an image of a winter scene showing plants and a spiders web in the style of watercolour

Below is the results. I was impressed at how quick and how good the results were.

Class Painting

Below is my attempt in the class. i used a craft knife to scratch the spiders web in the centre of the painting.

I then painted the scene a second time at home. This time I used masking fluid to mask the spiders web.

I was quite happy with the results. Although some of the colours are slightly on the darker side.

Which do you think is best? My attempt or Googles?
