Oak Tree

I decided to have another go at painting from an article in the Leisure Painter and the Artist magazine. This time a painting of an oak tree following the instructions of Nicki Saunders.

I had two attempts at painting this one. I sort of followed the instructions. Below are my two attempts.

Version 1

This is painted on Ken Bromley Practice watercolour paper

  • Paper: Ken Bromley Practice Watercolour Paper
  • Weight: 280 gsm (130lbs)
  • Finish: Not / Cold Pressed
  • Material: 25% Cotton

Version 2

This is painted on Arches Aquarelle paper

  • Paper: Arches Aquarelle
  • Weight: 300 gsm (140lbs)
  • Finish: Not / Cold Pressed
  • Material: 100% Cotton

Comments

I think that I improved with version 2. I do not like the leaves in the first painting, but think the sky is better.

I prefer the greens in the second painting and I think the leaves work much better. I also think that the fence across the field works so much better in the second painting.
