Intermediate 1 – Week 4 & 5

This was another two exercise. The idea was to paint a still life of a metal coffee pot and cup, with a couple of lemons thrown it for good measure.

Shading

We started by learning how to shade with pencils. Using different strenght pencils to create different depths of shade.

Coffee Pot

The first week was about skectching the coffee pot and then the second was about adding colour (mainly grey).

The coffee pot, cup and lemons

The first job was to sketch the coffee pot. Below are is my first attempt.

Sketch 1

I was not happy with my first attempt so I had another go at home, sketching fromt he photograph.

Sketch 2

I think given time and the lack of pressure of being in a class I made a much better go of the second attempt. I used a light box to transfer the sketch to watercolour paper and the coloured in the image in the second class.

Final Painting

Comparison

I must admit that I enjoyed the process of sketching / painting this one.
