Beginners – Week 8

Using Wax and Masking Fluid

Today we learnt how to use wax crayon and masking fluid to cover areas i. a painting.

Resisting Paint

I explored using a range of techniques to mask off the paper to leave areas white.

  • Wax Candle: Using both a small and large candle to add wax to the paper. This technique is permanent as the wax can not be easily removed once the painting is finished
  • Tape: Using masking tap. Cutting out shapes, using torn edges and removing the tape to add colour
  • Masking Fluid: Using masking fluid to protect the paper. I tried a number of different tools to apply the masking fluid

Glass

We masked off areas to indicate the high lights on a clear glass, A range of greys were used to paint the glass and the the masking fluid was removed.

Homework

I was having a drink at my local pub with my wife. She had a glass of mulled wine. So I took a photograph with the intention of painting it back home.
