Beginners – Week 2

Wet-on-Wet and Wet-on-Dry

One of the things I really like about watercolour painting is the way that wet paint can have a mind of its own. This is one of the things I really love about painting with watercolour (although it can also be frustrating at times).

Wet-on-Wet

The first exercise was to explore using the wet-on-wet technique.

The image above shows mixing colours with various levels of dryness / wetness. Starting at the top the paints were wet, next the paints were dryer and the last was almost dry.

The other column shows I started with clean water then added paint and allowed it to flow / mix.

Peppers

The next task was to paint peppers, using the wet-on-wet technique.

The paint was hard to control.

Homework

I painted some more peppers at home.

I think that the repeat paintings were an improvement.
